Contrary to what many people think, this is not my job. I have a day job, and it’s conference traveling season so I’ll be busy for the next month. But I promise to get back on the horn and post some more reviews soon. In the meantime, here are some nuggets to hold y’all over!
- First off, huge shoutout and props to First Magnitude Brewing Company for winning Gold at the Great American Beer Festival with their Drift English Style Mild!
-La Pasadita is opening a second location in town in the former Miraku building over on Archer Road across the street from Target. Build-out is happening right now and they expect to open sometime in the winter. This is in addition to their original location over on 6th Street.
-Bento Cafe's location at The Standard is expected to be open by late October per ownership. As always, this can change due to the good ol' government and its red tape, but that's what they are expecting as of right now.
-If you are not watching the Gators this afternoon, check out the food truck rally at High Dive starting at 5 PM. There are a few new trucks in addition to the usual Cilantro Tacos, Dank Cakes, Monsta Lobsta, Papa Pineapples, and Soup to Nuts.
-Several Oktoberfest events are happening next week. Tipple’s is serving LEJ Pretzels and Stubbies Pop-Up Sausages next Friday, September 28th from 5 PM to 8 PM. The following day, September 29th from 10 AM to 7 PM is another Oktoberfest event at Audi Gainesville that features pretzels, brats, beer from Swamp Head Brewery, and live music from a band flown in from Munich. And Dorn’s Liquors is hosting an Oktoberfest Tasting on Friday, September 28th from 5:30 PM to 8 PM with sausages and beer/wine samples. $15 a person to enter, call 352-378-0229 to reserve.
-Arepas Milko is now open on Sundays expanding from previously being open on Fridays and Saturdays only. The best way to keep up with their evolving hours is through their Instagram @arepasmilko.
-Good news for fans of Leonardo’s Pizza by the Slice! They’ve extended their lease until June of 2020, so you’ll be able to enjoy them for at least two more years. UF will be building a new School of Music where the restaurant is currently located, but won’t be moving forward just yet.
-Rocky Voglio, who was the owner of Newberry Backyard BBQ for many years before the new owners ran it to the ground, is back with a new BBQ restaurant! Woodyard Grill recently opened in Newberry at 102 NW 250th Street. I have yet to visit, but it’s good to see Rocky back in the game as his old restaurant was a staple for many years.
-Still no update on Newk’s Eatery and a time table to open. Neither the folks at Butler or I have any concrete information from them.
-Several of you have also asked me to provide a full post and update on what happened with Ifitis after the owner threatened to sue me on Instagram. I can only tell you that I will post what happened as soon as I’m given the OK. And no, they are not suing me.
That’s it for now. I promise a few goodies in the coming weeks whenever I get the chance. Be sure to follow me on Instagram @keneatsgainesville for more frequent updates and to keep up with my travels! Thanks!!!
