Restaurant Recap 7-12-18

Holy cow, you guys are super awesome and supportive of some good food in this town. The guys at Abuela’s told me that business has tripled since the review came out, and Arepas Milko ran out of food both days they were open last week and had 1+ hour lines. The response is incredible, and it makes me super excited that you guys get super excited for great food! I’ve been rejuvenated in my will to continue writing and sharing information with you all. That said, let’s get to some news shall we?

-The Top is celebrating their 18th Anniversary this weekend, which means celebrations across all of their establishments downtown. A Black Sabbath tribute band kicks things off at The Atlantic Friday night at 10 PM with no cover (21+ only) followed by a block party at The Atlantic and Arcade Bar at 10 PM on Saturday. Meanwhile, The Shitty Beatles make their return Saturday night at the Wooly. The show starts at 8 PM and also features The Mermers, Perfect Strangers, and Jordan Burchel. No cover for any of it, drinks specials and giveaways will happen all weekend.

-Looking for something a little more low key to do this weekend? Uppercrust is hosting their weekly wine and cheese tasting on Saturday, July 14th starting at 1 PM. Tickets are $15 a head to sample wines and cheeses from small vineyards and cheesemakers (taste approved by the Uppercrust team).

-Sweet Dreams of Gainesville FL is hosting their annual Crazy Flavor Night this Sunday, July 15th, from 1 PM till 10 PM. There will be plenty of delicious and creative ice cream flavors on hand and available in sampler bowls that range from 2 mini scoops to 12 mini scoops. Flavors are posted the night before as usual, come prepared knowing what you want, and make sure you get a card to mark down the corresponding flavor number you want. Prepare to wait in line, but it moves quickly.

-In case you missed my previous post, Maple Street Biscuit Company’s second Gainesville location will be opening at Town of Tioga on July 20th at 7 AM. First 30 customers get a variety of prizes. See my earlier post for more details.

-Swamp Head Brewery is hosting their Rad to the Max 80’s party on July 20th from 1 PM to 11 PM. Patrons are encouraged to show up in their best 80’s costume with Cilantro Tacos and Rib Bone Bar-B-Que on hand for food. Limited can releases will be taking place at 3 PM.

-Cypress & Grove Brewing Co. will be hosting a food truck rally on July 21st from 3 PM to 9 PM to benefit UF’s Campaign for Charities.

-Arepas Milko will continue to only operate Fridays and Saturdays from 5 PM to 11 PM (or when food runs out) for now, but the owners tell me they will be looking to expand hours soon.

-Recent openings in town include Ifitis Thai & Sushi, J-Petal (poke and ice cream), and Bolay (fast casual build-your-own healthy bowls). I have not been to the first two yet, so please be patient.

-Thank you all for reading as usual. My Instagram is only about 600 people away from hitting 10,000 and I could use your help in getting there. Please follow me on there if you haven’t already done so @keneatsgainesville, and if you already have, please tell your friends! I promise that when I get to 10,000 followers, I’ll do a big (and fun) giveaway!
