Folks, it’s time for another news post and there’s a lot going on this weekend in the world of food. I’ve also got some big updates on a few restaurant openings in town. Oh, and in case you missed my previous post, make sure you’re following me on Instagram @keneatsgainesville for the biggest giveaway I’ve ever done.
-Embers Wood Grill is hosting their annual Wine & Food Festival this weekend with the main event being this Sunday from 2 PM to 5 PM. If you have never been, it’s definitely worth it for more wine than you can handle and tons of great local food. Tickets are $125, still available, and can be purchased at http://events.eventzilla.net/e/embers-wine-and-food-festival-2018-2138916462
-Embers will also be hosting an event from 4 PM to 6 PM tomorrow at Spark next door. For $45, it’s a one-on-one with Derek Rolffs of Bravium Vineyards in Napa. Chef Briton will be providing food tastings to complement a tasting of Derek’s wines. Tickets still available for this as well and can be purchased at http://events.eventzilla.net/e/intimate-tasting-with-derek-rohlffs-winemaker-and-owner-of-bravium-vineyards--2138939314
-Swamp Head Brewery will be celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary tomorrow, April 7th. Starting at 1 PM, they will be hosting a family-friendly event with food from Mayflower Cellars and Old San Juan Gastronomia, a bounce house, ice cream from DeConna Ice Cream, a beer-filled dunk tank, and live music from the glorious Bears and Lions. 100% of the proceeds from the ice cream sales and dunk tank will benefit Alachua County Humane Society. As for the beer, there will be a number of special releases brewed in collaboration with every other local brewery!
-Word on the street is that Hurricane BTW will be opening a 2nd location in the Park Avenue development on 39th Street next to Bangkok Square. Also going into that place is an unnamed Peruvian concept that is tentatively taking the spot next to Taco Del Mar. More on this later.
-Speaking of Bangkok Square, the latest on their Park Avenue location is they are expecting an opening later this month. Again, more on that as time gets closer. I will also have some gift cards to give away soon in celebration of their opening.
-And while we’re on Thai, there are two new Thai concepts opening in town. One on University Avenue in the former STM Seafood/Billyboz BBQ/Titi’s Café location next to the Holiday Inn, and another one that is moving into the old Five Bar location that was supposed to house an Irish pub that went out of business before they could open. I do not have much more information about either one at this time, but will be monitoring.
-Whole Foods Market’s opening is fast approaching and it’s likely to be ready to go next month. More on this as time comes closer.
-Dave’s New York Deli South at Park Lane Apartments has extended their hours. They are now open until 9 PM from Monday through Saturday and until 3 PM on Sundays.
That’s all for now folks! Happy Eating!
