Restaurant Recap 12-1-2017

While I’m currently eating my way through NYC (follow along on my Instagram), I don’t want to neglect Gainesville. So here’s a short update on some of the latest and greatest happening around town in the world of food.

-Starting December 4th, Root & Pecker will begin serving breakfast Mondays through Fridays starting at 7 AM until 10 AM and extending their Sunday Brunch to Saturdays as well. This also means they will no longer be serving dinner to focus on the breakfast and lunch only.

-Sabore recently rolled out a new lunch format where for $12.99, you can enjoy a 2-course lunch every Thursday and Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Examples of the menu items include a Pork Katsu with Jasmine Rice, Pan-seared Salmon with Sauteed Spinach, and a Falafel Pita Sandwich along with choice of salad, veggies, or soup. But it’s ever changing.

-Shula’s Steakhouse recently opened in the newly renovated Hilton Hotel on 34th Street. It’s a true high end steakhouse owned by the legendary Don Shula. Lunch is served Mondays through Saturdays from 11:30 AM to 2 PM while Dinner is served beginning at 5:30 PM and until 9:30 PM (10:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays). Stay tuned for a full review.

-Another food truck rally is happening tomorrow, December 2nd at High Dive beginning at 6 PM. Vendors include Cilantro Tacos, Jody Cannoli, Endless Summer Ice Cream, Monsta Lobsta, Off the Griddle, and more. Admission is free, they will be hosting live music, and there will be vegan and vegetarian options available.

-Dave’s NY Deli South located on the corner of Tower Road and Archer Road has recently extended their operating hours until 7 PM so dinner will be served as well.

-Sweet Dreams Ice Cream is hosting a Winter Holiday Flavor Night on December 10th starting at 1 PM till 10 PM with a slew of holiday-inspired ice cream flavors. Check their event page as the day comes closer for a full list of flavors. -

-A couple new spots have been announced for Butler Town Center: Ben & Jerry’s and Grub Burger. The Whole Foods Market is tentatively slated to open in Spring of 2018.

-If you missed it, make sure to check out my most recent review of Daybreak Pleasant Street. They’re one of the better restaurants to open up in recent memory and a strong contender for best new restaurant of 2017.

That’s all for now folks! Happy eating!
