Restaurant Recap 8-9-2017

August 9, 2017

I promise there are some restaurant reviews in the pipeline, but there has been so much stuff going on these past few weeks heading into Fall, that I have to post yet another Restaurant Recap. Here we go!

-Sabore is celebrating their 7th anniversary all next week with a different event each day between August 15th through the 20th. This celebration is highlighted by a special 15 course dinner featuring collaborations with guest chef, Steve Grimes of Crane Ramen, next Wednesday (August 16th). Only 20 seats available for this one, and it’s going to be good. Other events throughout the week include a Toston Night, wine dinner, all-night happy hour, and complimentary pastries, mimosas, and Bloody Mary’s during brunch. Check their Facebook page for more information.

-After a successful soft opening week, Ameraucana Pizzeria is now officially open from Tuesdays through Thursdays 5 PM to 9 PM, and then Fridays and Saturdays from 5 PM until dough runs out. The food truck reborn as a brick and mortar has been on point thus far, reclaiming the best pizza crown. To the people who have never experienced it, don’t be afraid of char on your crust, it’s as the Italians and God intended. A full review to come.

-8 Degrees Fahrenheit Ice Cream from Atlanta has announced they are opening a location in Gainesville. Specifically in Butler North. Having been to the one in Atlanta, I will say this is going to be awesome. It’s one of those rolled ice cream concepts like Mr. Cool in Midtown, except without the smell of sewage. They expect to be open by the end of this month.

-The owners of Public & General will be opening a beer garden concept with small bites over on SW 4th Avenue just west of Main Street. I do not yet have a timeline on opening, but this will be part of a resurgence of sorts in that area with Cilantro Tacos opening a location there as well.

-Root & Pecker recently announced they are lowering the prices of all their pizzas and beers with a classic margherita pizza now at $10 and local beers as low as $3 during happy hour. Don’t you guys just love the free market?

- Volcanic Sushi & Sake in Haile Village recently started serving a couple ramen options and they’re on point. Both the crispy duck ramen and the pork miso ramen are very well done, and we finally have another ramen option in town that’s worth eating. While Crane Ramen is still king, this is welcome news to those of us who live out west and sometimes get too lazy to drive downtown. I recommend it!

-After a summer hiatus, Alpin Bistro is back and open once again. A few people messaged me worried they were permanently closed, but not to worry…they are alive and well.

-The ABC Liquors in town are currently doing a fundraiser for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. A portion of sales from select bottles of wine at any of the stores in town will go towards the foundation from now through October 2nd. More than $108,000 was raised last year and they want to beat that number this year.
