Easter Weekend 2017 is upon us, and my my what a busy weekend it is going to be. There’s quite a bit going on around town, so here’s your roundup of the best stuff happening! Food-related at least…
-In case you missed my earlier announcement, Swamp Head Brewery is hosting Tree Fest this Saturday, April 15th, where every beer purchased will help the Alachua County Conservation Trust plant five trees. To contribute to the cause, I’m buying a year-round beer for the first 10 people to say “put it on Ken Eats Gainesville’s tab.”
-Crane Ramen and First Magnitude are collaborating on an Izakaya Happy Hour between 5 PM and 8 PM this Friday, April 14th through Sunday, April 16th. Between those hours, Crane Ramen will be whipping up appetizer specials to pair with First Magnitude beers.
-Sabore is hosting a special Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 16th between 10 AM and 3 PM. $50 a person ($15 for kids 12 and under) will get you access to an all-you-can-eat feast that includes salads, French pastries, prime rib, pork, salmon, oyster and bloody mary bar, and more. Live music and mimosas also on hand. Reservations are recommended. Full menu is available on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1892548087699101/
-Want a sneak peek of the upcoming Madrina’s concept? They’re hosting a “Blocktail Party” at neighboring Alpin Beer + Wine Bistro this Saturday, April 15th starting at 8:30 PM. There will be beer and wine based cocktails inspired by the Cuban flavors of Madrina’s. Rumor has it there may even be a Croque Madame Cubano in the house. Say whaaaaat?
-Blackadder Brewing Company is Gainesville’s latest brewery, and they’ve been open for several weeks now. But this Saturday, April 15th will be their grand opening celebration. Starting at noon through 10 PM, both Mayflower Cellars and Cilantro Tacos will be on hand. Drawings for giveaways every hour, face painting for kids, and special beer on tap.
-The Haile Farmer’s Market will be hosting a Spring Festival this Saturday, April 15th between 9 AM and Noon. In addition to all the usual wonderful vendors on hand, the Easter Bunny himself will make an appearance for the kids. Egg dying classes, spring crafts, and special treats will also be available.
-One more thing…that raw cookie dough bakery that everyone is so excited about? Well, they’re open now at 1113 West University Avenue. Enjoy!
I’m a little under the weather right now, but I’ll be back on the saddle after this week and promising to get back on the reviews. Until then, have a safe week and a wonderful holiday weekend!
