The News: Valentine's Day 2017 Edition

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. If you’re worried about burning down the apartment or feeding your significant-other an overdone steak, oversalted corn, soggy hamburgers, or whatever you people eat together…have I got the post for you!

-Sabore is offering a special Valentine’s menu beginning tomorrow, February 10th through February 17th. Chef Valero has whipped up several 4-course prefixed menu options. Reservations can be made by calling 352-332-2727. The full menu and more details are available here:

-Dragonfly’s Valentine’s Day 5-course dinner includes dishes like a Hokkaido Milk Bread served with chiles, peach relish, caviar, uni, and unibutter, a Hawaiian Moon Fish sashimi with black caviar, white truffle, heart of palm, and a white soy ponzu, as well Grilled Australian Lamb Chops with a shiitake shallot ravioli, tomato bonita jam, and truffle fries. The prix fixe menu is $130 a person. The seasonal menu right now includes notable dishes like the Kamo Nabe (duck breast, miso cured egg, watercress, shimeji mushrooms, tofu, scallions, lime, and garlic rayu) and Sous Vide Pork Belly (broccolini, kimchi Brussels sprouts, garlic tare, shiitake mushroom, lime, and pork belly). Reservations can be made by calling 352-371-3359.

-Ember’s Wood Grill will be doing a special 5-course dinner that will be available both Monday, February 13th and Valentine’s Day night. Dishes include a Smoked King Salmon, Blue Crab Bisque, and entrée choices of Butter Poached Lobster Tail, Rack of Lamb, Grouper, Veggie Strudel, and Prime Filet Mignon. $100 a person not including drinks, gratuity, or taxes. Call 352-380-0901 for reservations.

-No specials that I’m aware of at Manuel’s Vintage Room, but if you’re lucky enough to make a reservation here, it’s the most intimate and romantic dining room in Gainesville. An excellent wine list and solid Italian fare make it a great choice. Call 352-375-7372 for reservations.

-Antonio’s Made In Italy down in McIntosh is also serving a special Valentine’s Day dinner with 4 courses, including a complimentary bottle of wine per couple. Like Manuel’s, it’s a small and intimate dining room. Choices of entrees include broiled lobster tail, grilled salmon, a surf and turf optin, and vegetarian Capellini Toscana. $75 per person. Call 352-591-4141 for reservations.

-If you’re looking for something a little bit more casual, Swamp Head Brewery is hosting a Valentine’s Day Cookie & Beer Tasting. Four special Valentine’s Day-inspired beers will be paired with some fresh baked cookies. The event starts at 4 PM and will run until 10 PM on Valentine’s night. Get there early. More of a cupcakes person? You’re in luck. First Magnitude Brewing Company will be hosting a cupcake and beer pairing with treats from Patticakes. Humble Wood Fire Pizza will also be on hand serving food. The event also starts at 4 PM and runs until 9 PM. If you can swing both, you’re my hero.

Enjoy, everyone! I wish you all a wonderful time, more reviews coming up. I apologize for not being as active lately as I’ve been traveling and needed a bit of a reset. But I promise there is much more to come.
