The News 10/16

October 16, 2016

Happy Sunday! As the cool weather rolls in, so does the food goodness. It’s time once again for…THE NEWS!

-Do not forget today is Sweet Dream’s Fall Chocolate Night. Starting from 1 PM till 10 PM, Sweet Dreams has 36 varieties of chocolate ice cream available. Flavors include a chocolate baklava, a white chocolate with mango and lychee, and a flavor made with First Magnitude Drift beer. More information on their event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1967583210134958

-Also, don’t forget that Root & Pecker’s brunch is back now and being served every Sunday. Their sourdough waffles are pretty bomb, and the $15 bottomless mimosas actually contain a good amount of champagne unlike some of the other places in town that do it but serve you Sunny Delight in a champagne flute.

-Madrina’s, the Cuban-inspired cocktail bar being opened by TJ Palmieri (of 2nd Street Speakeasy and overall badass fame) is hosting a pop-up event next Monday, October 24th at Crane Ramen. From 8 PM to 2 AM for one night only, you’ll be able to preview some of the cocktails on the menu as well as taste some Latin-inspired cuisine brought to you by the fine chefs at Crane. Proceeds from the event will go towards assisting Eastern Cuba with the effects from Hurricane Matthew. More information here: https://www.facebook.com/events/353268755014385/

-Tamal, a specialty tamales shop has opened up downtown. Located at 439 South Main Street, they’re serving up pork picadillo, chili & cheese, and chicken mole tamales for a very reasonably priced $3. Horchata and other goodness is on the menu as well. Their hours have not yet been set and they’re closing up shop when they sell out, so keep track on their Facebook page.

-Big Island Bowls, which started out as a food truck in St. Augustine is opening up in the same complex as Root & Pecker and CYM Coffee. They will be serving acai bowls, smoothies, as well as poke bowls. They plan on opening their doors tomorrow, October 17th.

-After temporarily closing to have a baby (congrats!) and to renovate the space, LEJ Pretzel Company is back! They will be open their normal business hours on Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from Noon to 6 PM. Their entire space has been spruced up in time for the beautiful weather, and they’re now serving beer as well. These are the tastiest pretzels around!!!

-There’s a pretty awesome event coming up this Thursday, October 20th at the Florida Museum of Natural History. “Drink with the Extinct” will feature beverages from First Magnitude and Swamp Head as well as food from Blue Gill and New Deal Café. Enjoy tasty yummies while checking out our super awesome cool natural history museum. Proceeds will benefit the museum’s junior volunteer program. $25 for museum members, $30 for non-members. Live music provided by Wax Wings.  https://www.facebook.com/events/521203598072230/

-High Dive is hosting another food truck rally on Saturday, October 22nd starting at 5 PM. Proceeds will go towards benefiting Gators March for Babies. It’s the perfect way to spend the Gators bye week. More information, including the full lineup of food trucks is on their event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1145499448877087/
