The News 9/20

Let’s do some news shall we? Got some good stuff for you guys today, let’s get started. As usual, please like, comment, share, tell people!

-Patticakes’ new downtown location opens today! Located at the Bo Diddley Plaza, they will have their ribbon cutting at 9 AM and open all day. Giveaways will be available as well as a special cupcake to benefit the Pace Center for Girls. Just like the Haile Plantation location, a variety of coffees (from local roaster, Rembrandt Coffee) and cupcakes will be available. Breakfast is served until 11:30 AM every day (sandwiches, quiche, scones) and lunch will be available as well.

-The new Backstreet Blues Chophouse & Oyster Bar located in the old Beef O’Brady’s at 6500 SW Archer Road is experiencing a delay in opening due to them awaiting a fire marshall inspection. Typical government holding things up here. The restaurant is now looking at early next week for an opening, and will feature wet-aged steaks, a full raw oyster bar, and a variety of seafood options as well.

-A lot of rumors have been circulating for some time regarding PF Chang’s opening a location in Gainesville. At this point I can confirm that there is indeed action here, and they are close to agreeing on a restaurant at the new Butler Town Center. The former Walmart and Lowes portion of the plaza will be redeveloped into an outdoor shopping center that will also house a 365 by Whole Foods, and a food hall (think Krog Street Market in Atlanta).

-Root & Pecker just announced the return of brunch starting October 2nd. This means their bottomless mimosas ($15) will also be returning, and they don’t give you a drop of champagne like a lot of places in town. It also means their delicious sourdough waffles and housemade biscuits and gravy will be returning as well. Mark your calendars for this.

-This Thursday is another Sausages & Suds event at Swamp Head Brewery featuring Mayflower Cellars and their ridiculously delicious locally-made sausages. Seriously, I’m obsessed. Also on hand for the event will be One Tough Cookie, whose Levain Bakery-inspired cookies are also another source of obsession for me lately. Did I mention their proceeds go towards pediatric cancer research?

-Also at Swamp Head this Friday is their Oktoberfest celebration with special Oktoberfest beer, steins, pretzels from Uppercrust Bakery, as well as sausages from Stubbies & Steins.

-High Dive will be hosting another food truck rally this coming Saturday, September 24th starting at 5 PM. Trucks include Baboyz Phillipino, Bubba Luigi’s, Cilantro Taco’s, Humble Wood Fire, Monsta Lobsta, Off the Griddle, Papa Pineapple, and Sweet Dreams Ice Cream. The event is free as usual with live music inside the venue. It will run later in the evening for those of us who want to watch the Gators crush Tennessee.

That’s it for now, stay tuned for some more goodies on the horizon, including (finally) more reviews and a very special sandwich brought to you by yours truly and Dave’s New York Deli.
