Ever since the beloved Stubbies & Steins closed down, their former location has sat empty. Well I'm pleased to bring you the exclusive news that a new cocktail bar will soon open up in its place (with the blessing of Ms. Berkeley Hoflund herself). Occupying the original Stubbies side of the building will be Madrina's, a new Cuban-inspired bar that will also serve Cuban-inspired snacks.
None other than the venerable TJ Palmieri, formerly of the now-defunct 2nd Street Speakeasy will be at the helm, teaming with the fine gents who brought you CRANE RAMEN. In fact, Palmieri has been doing his homework, spending time with and learning from Julio Cabrera in Miami. You know, the King of Miami's Cocktail Scene, GQ Magazine cover boy, United States Bartenders' Guild Bartender of the Year, world-renowned managing partner of The Regent Cocktail Club. That Julio Cabrera.
Build-out will begin soon, and the team is shooting for an opening in the fall. More information will come your way in the coming weeks! This is big news not just for downtown, but for Gainesville's bar scene.
