It's official, Pop-a-Top will be opening a second location at the upcoming Depot Park on South Main Street. Occupying the east side of the renovated train station off Depot Avenue, and adjacent to the park playground will be a general store concept. It will feature the same items available at the current Pop-A-Top location on the corner of University and Main, but with an expanded area for more market goods and retail. The same owners will also be bringing a beer and wine garden concept to the west end of the building, complete with a covered patio. Meanwhile, the middle of the building will remain an open space that can host community events, weddings, parties, and more.
These are the same folks responsible for the TOP, The Atlantic, The Dime, and the current Pop-A-Top location. Now, the city commission has officially given the go-ahead on their newest concept and I can't wait to see what they do. The plan is to open in August of this year, congruent with the park's planned opening to the public. The concept is very much so a work-in-progress.
"Down the road, we do plan to bring more dinner-time options ourselves, as well as embracing local food trucks and other creative partnerships in making the Depot Park a collective offering for townies and visitors alike," says co-owner Scott Shillington.
