Ok, so they're not my recipes. If it were left to me, it would be a whole lot of Fernet Branca and espresso mixed together, and subsequently a lot of very unhappy readers. No, these recipes come from the venerable TJ Palmieri formerly of 2nd Street Speakeasy fame and currently tending bar at Tall Paul's. Regarded by patrons, restaurateurs, and fellow bartenders alike as one of the best around, he has graciously shared some of his secrets with you guys. These are all recipes you can make at home with some basic bar tools (namely a shaker, the appropriate glasses, knife, and strainer).

1.5 oz High West Double Rye Whiskey
1 orange slice
1 lemon slice
3-5 mint leaves
1 small piece of fresh ginger
.5 oz honey
Muddle the ginger in your shaker tin, add all other ingredients and ice. Shake hard for 20 seconds and strain into a rocks glass preferably over a single big ice cube. Garnish with lemon and orange twists and a mint sprig.
1.5 oz Cana Brava Rum
.75 oz Clement Mahina Coconut liquor
.75 oz lime juice
.25 oz simple syrup
Combine all ingredients with ice and shake hard for 20 seconds before *double-straining into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.
*To double strain, hold a tea strainer in your left hand and your cocktail shaker in your right and gently pour the cocktail through a fine strainer into the glass.
1.5 oz Martin Millers Gin
.75 oz lemon juice
.75 oz strawberry purée
1 dash rhubarb bitters
.5 oz simple syrup
1/2 egg white
2-4 oz ice cold ginger ale
Shake everything without ice for 5 seconds. Careful, the egg white will expand and make the shaker want to separate! Add a scoop of ice and shake hard for 20 seconds. Add some ginger ale to an ice-filled Collins glass before straining the cocktail on top. Serve and enjoy!
1.5 oz St George Green Chile Vodka
.75 oz lime juice
.75 oz agave nectar
2 thin cucumber slices
Combine all your ingredients with ice and shake hard for 20 seconds
- If you cut the cucumber nice and thin there's no need to muddle it. Strain it all into a rocks glass filled with ice and garnish it with a mint sprig and cucumber slices!
1 oz St. George Bruto Americano liquor
1 can of Stiegel Grapefruit Radler
Slice a lime wedge and moisten the edge of a Collins glass with it, dip half of rim of the glass in the salt, squeeze the lime into the glass, add the Bruto Americano. Fill the glass 3/4 way up with crushed ice, top with the Radler, stir to combine and enjoy!
