The News 5/20/2016

It has been a while since I’ve made a news post, so here’s one for y’all! Got a couple write-ups coming up in the next week, stay tuned. For now, here’s some news on Maple Street Biscuit, an update on Butler North, and some exciting events coming up. As usual, please share, like, comment, tag your friends, tell the world, give a hug.

-Maple Street Biscuit Company has announced they are open additional hours. Starting today, they will be also open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 PM to 9 PM.

-Taste of Gainesville is fast approaching. The event on June 5th will feature local restaurants as well as the annual Iron Chef Competition that will pit three local chefs against each other. Tickets are still available at:

-Speaking of Taste of Gainesville, a kick-off party will be held on Wednesday, May 25th at Swamp Head Brewery from 6 PM to 8 PM. Swamp Head will be unveiling a new beer brewed specially for the event.

-Midwesterners rejoice, Butler North has announced that Culver’s will be opening a location there. Famous for their shakes and butter burgers (exactly what it sounds like), Culver’s will open their first Gainesville location and their 25th Florida location this fall.

-Taziki’s Café, a Mediterranean concept from the Clearwater area is finalizing their plans to move into Butler North as well. Stay tuned for more information.

-In case you missed it, it was announced last week that V Pizza and Sidecar, two Jacksonville businesses, will be taking over the former Vello’s location downtown. V Pizza is a wood-fired pizza concept, while Sidecar is a craft cocktail favorite. Both are much welcomed downtown! I’m just glad it’s not another Mexican restaurant!

-43rd Street Deli on Williston Road just announced that for Finals Week, all students with a valid UF or Santa Fe ID will receive 20% off their meals from May 23rd through May 26th between the hours of 7 AM and 11 AM.

-Crane Ramen recently retired their Industry Night Specials on Mondays, but rolled out a new Happy Hour menu that runs from 5 PM to 7 PM daily. $5 cocktail specials, $4 drafts, $3 wells/house wines, and appetizer specials under $5.

-World of Beer on 34th Street is now opened as well. They’ve done a wonderful job of renovating a dated space that previously housed La Nopalera and Hooter’s. The place seriously looks great, with ample room for meetings and events as well. It feels more like a restaurant than a bar. But skip the cocktails and the entrees.

-Soon I’ll have a few very exciting exclusive restaurant/bar announcements for you all. Stay tuned! Be sure to add me on Instagram and Snapchat for extra content, and check out for specials, upcoming restaurants, best-of lists, and an archive of all my reviews.
