This one's for all you UF alumni living in South Florida. Dragonfly Izakaya & Fish Market is set to open its doors on April 9th at 5241 NW 87th Ave in Doral. So if you miss the little piece of Gainesville that is Dragonfly Gainesville, you're in luck. I had a chance to preview the new space this past weekend, and it's absolutely gorgeous. The decor is inspired by Japanese fish markets and features the same indoor-outdoor bar area as its original location in Gainesville. There is counter seating overlooking the large robata grill as well as a more traditional sushi experience where diners sit in front of the chefs as they prepare rolls and serve them directly.
The menu is familiar, but with new additions like crispy pig ears, a version of Fish & Chips with crispy halibut and thinly-sliced fried lotus root chips, and a variety of small plates from the robata grill that feature everything from chicken neck to wings to tail.
Attached to the restaurant is a fish market as well, where diners can purchase cuts of the same sushi-grade fish used at the restaurant, as well as ingredients and supplies to make their own sushi at home. We're talking high-end stuff like soy sauce aged in bourbon barrels from Kentucky, and the same sushi rice you get at Jiro Ono's famed sushi restaurant in Japan.
Miami food publications are already calling this one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in 2016. One of Gainesville's absolute bests is slowly but surely taking over Florida, and we couldn't be more proud!
