The News: Holidays Edition

 The holiday season is upon us! I wish all of you a safe and wonderful time. It has been a great year, and I look forward to an even better 2016! Hard to believe that this blog will have existed 3 years come January. Thank you to everyone who purchased an “Eat Gainesville” shirt benefitting Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. From what I understand, Shirts Are Cool is experiencing some delays due to holiday order volume. They are doing their best to get it out to everyone before Christmas Day. Stay tuned for an announcement next week, we’ve raised almost $600 for the food bank! That said, here’s a roundup of the latest holiday news, gift card deals, who’s open, and New Year festivities.

 

-Bangkok Square will be open regular hours on Christmas Eve then noon to 10 PM on Christmas Day, with no break between lunch and dinner, serving their regular menu. Last year, they experienced a busy day on Christmas, so if you plan on visiting, please call ahead.

 

-Paramount Grill will be open regular hours on Christmas Eve and will be serving a special prix fixe menu for the evening. For a full list of the menu items available, please visit their website at www.paramountgrill.com. The three-course dinner menu will be $55 per adult or $20 for children under 10. Call ahead for reservations at 352-378-3398.

 

-Amelia’s Restaurant will be open on Christmas Day for dinner only from 5 PM to 10:30 PM. Please call ahead at 352-373-1919 for reservations as it does fill up quickly.

 

-Swamp Head Brewery will be open from 4 PM to 8 PM on Christmas Eve, and First Magnitude Brewing Company will open from noon to 6 PM as well. I tell you this so you can get some drinking in before the relatives roll into town. You’re welcome.

 

-Still haven’t finished your holiday shopping? Several local restaurants are offering gift deals. Dragonfly and The Great Outdoors Restaurant are both offering $20 for every $100 in gift cards purchased. Sweet Dreams of Gainesville FL is giving out vouchers for one free scoop of ice cream for every $10 in gift cards purchased. Mark’s US Prime is offering a $25 gift card with the purchase of $100 in gift cards of any denomination. Mojo Hogtown Bar-B-Que, Emiliano’s Café, Bento Cafe, and Metro Diner are all giving away a $10 gift card with $50 in gift cards purchased.

 

-Crane Ramen’s New Year’s Party is happening again this year. $80 a person gets unlimited sushi, sashimi, waygu beef tataki, yakitori, champagne, cocktails, beer, and wine from 8 PM till 1 AM on New Year’s Eve. Tickets are limited to 50 people and are on sale now. Dress to impress. Visit the restaurant to purchase.

 

-The Wooly is hosting a New Year’s Eve Ball starting at 9 PM. $20 entry gets you in for hors d’oeuvres, sweet treats, a champagne toast, and live music by The Savants of Soul. This is a semi-black tie affair that’s going to be real darn fancy. They’re even having a balloon drop. A BALLOON DROP!!!
