The News 4/16/2015

April 16, 2015

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of…THE NEWS! Haven't done one of these in a while! Lots of exciting stuff going on right now, especially if you’re a beer lover. Ready? Set? Go!

-Graduation is quickly approaching, so a big congrats to all the Gator Seniors out there. I know many of you will be asking about good spots to take your family. The favorite spots like Sabore, 706, Dragonfly, Mark’s and Embers will likely be packed. Cymply Fresh Café is now accepting reservations for their rentable dining room with full catering. Email events.cymplyfresh@gmail.com for more information.

-This Saturday from 1 PM to 5 PM is the annual Hogtown Craft Beer Festival. It is the first year of it being held at the Tioga Town Center. Tickets are $45 a person and entitles you to try samples of 300+ beers from breweries all over the country. Oh yeah, and Stubbies & Steins will be briefly revived for one day only. WHAT!? They will be out there serving sausages, beer, and selling some goodies as well.

-Of course, it is Gainesville Craft Beer Week right now with special events happening every day. Dorn’s is hosting a beer tasting this Friday (April 17th) starting at 7 PM. Over 15 beers will be available for tasting, and will cost $25 a person. First Magnitude will be tapping a special Vanilla Drift (Drift aged on vanilla beans) tonight (April 16th) at 6 PM, and then a Coffee-Aged Minnow Imperial Stout tomorrow at 6 PM as well. For a complete listing of other events hosted by the likes of Loosey’s and Tall Paul’s, please visit: http://www.hogtownbeerfest.com/beerfest/beerweek.cfm

-Before the Beer Festival on Saturday though, is Ward’s Supermarket’s Spring Food Fest. The event begins at 9 AM and runs until 3 PM. There will be samples available of great local food and drinks, as well as live music, raffles, and plenty of free knowledge to those who seek it!

-Sweet Dreams Ice Cream’s Chocolate Night is coming up on April 26th from 1 PM to 10 PM. For the unfamiliar, this is the night where they roll out a huge variety of chocolate flavors. This is my favorite spot for ice cream in Gainesville, if you’re a chocolate lover and an ice cream lover, you should probably mark this in your little moleskin planner right now.

-High Dive will be hosting yet another food truck rally coming up next Saturday, April 25th. Starting at 5 PM, there will be free live music per usual, as well as trucks from Gainesville and surrounding areas.

-The Stadium Club building off University Avenue that currently houses tenants like The Spot, The Hyppo, and Cheese Daddy will be adding another business soon. Vietnamese Grille is currently in the works. No other information is available yet other than the fact that the city has approved the work to begin. Stay tuned…

-Don’t forget, KEG is much more than a Facebook page. Be sure to check out the full website for local coupons, best-of list, and a full archive of all of my reviews at www.keneatsgainesville.com. Be sure to also follow me on Instagram @keneatsgainesville to see my day-to-day culinary adventures. More reviews are coming, I promise. Unlike some other food writers in town, I actually go to the restaurants I write about and pay for it out of my own pocket. My schedule lately hasn’t allotted as much free time to it as I’d like, but there’s much more to come! Thank you all again for your continued support, let’s get this to 12,000 “likes”!
