Steamers is returning!

In 1982, a little place behind midtown opened up called Steamers. The tiny restaurant was a local favorite for years as they served up fried rice, curries, and sandwiches to mostly hungry students. Around 2004, it was sold to the same folks who would open Buddha Belly (later Tasty Buddha) and it would close in 2011.

Now, my sources have confirmed a new Steamers will arise in the former Lunchbox spot downtown (at the soon-to-be-renovated Bo Diddley Plaza). It will be ran by the original owner, who in recent years has been better known for Artie's Tempeh, and are aiming to open in about two months or so. A lease has already been signed, and the restaurant will be open through the year-long renovations to the plaza.

Rejoice Gainesvillians, an old favorite is coming back. You heard it here first! You're welcome for the scoop, Gainesville Sun.
