The News: Valentine's Edition 2/6/2015

It’s time for another round of the news, and this time, I’ll rounding up some of the various Valentine’s Day specials around town. This is for all you lovebirds out there. A home-cooked meal with a nice bottle of wine is always A+ Great Job #1, but if that’s not your thing or you don’t want to burn down the house, I got you covered. As for me, I’ll be spending it with this delicious piece of steak because I’m sad and alone. Just kidding. But not really. There is no steak. HOORAY LOVE! HERE WE GO!

 

-Sabore is offering a special Valentine’s menu on both the 13th and 14th. L’Amour Fou will be a French dining experience complete with a raw bar, plenty of truffles, as well as a box of Chef Valero’s fresh-made macarons to take home. They’re taking reservations now at 352-332-2727.

 

-Dragonfly is also doing a special menu that will tentatively include a Tuna Sashimi, a crispy chicken with red chili corn salsa, togarashi honey glazed biscuit, and marinated poached egg, a Hotate Risotto (Japanese scallops, carrot top pesto, shimeji mushrooms, shittake mushrooms), and a Chawanmushi with shrimp, sea urchin, salmon roe, and yuzu. For dessert, they’ll have a blackberry goat cheese ice cream with a yuzu waffle and pine nut brittle. DAAAAAAMN. Reservations currently being made through 352-371-3359

 

-Midnight Cookies is offering up special Valentine’s Day cookie packages that include packs of their signature cookies, and heart-shaped cookie cakes. They are currently taking orders and will be delivering on Valentine’s Day. Visit http://www.midnightcookies.com/VDay.html for more information.

 

-Great Outdoors Restaurant in High Springs will have their special menu on both the 13th and 14th. Reservations are being accepted at 352-454-1288. The menu will include items like a Pasta De Mare with lobster tail, fresh jump diver scallops, shrimp, mussels, tomatoes, garlic, and basil tossed in linguini and champagne butter, a 16 oz. bone-in filet mignon with a shallot demi, herb and garlic roasted potatoes, and truffled asparagus, and a Wild Mushroom Ravioli with portabella, shiitake, and ricotta filled raviolis in a marsella cream. All entrees come with a complimentary glass of champagne.

 

-Paramount Grill is currently taking reservations as well at 352-378-3398. Their prix fixe menu will include five courses for $55 a person. Some of the items include a barrel cut angus over lobster and chive mashed yukon gold potatoes with broccolini, roasted portabellos, puff pastry and white truffle sherry reduction, sesame roasted halibut served over lemon grass basmati rice with organic pea shoot salad, avocado and spicy miso peanut sauce, and a grilled venison strip loin over goat cheese, corn and jalapeno pancake with grilled zucchini, chipotle pepper mirin wine sauce and salsa fresca. -Embers will be serving their Valentine’s Day menu on the 13th, 14th, and 15th if you really want to avoid the crowds, call 352-380-0901 to reserve. $85 a person gets a five-course dinner that includes items like herb crusted chilean sea bass with a zucchini julienne, cherry tomato vinaigrette, and a dashi broth, and a seared diver scallops with saffron risotto, sugar snap peas, and local pea tendrils. -Mark’s Prime downtown is offering a choice of appetizer, salad, entrée, side, and dessert for $145 a couple. Some of the items include an Oysters Rockefeller, served on the half shell with spinach, bacon, scallots, and asiago cheese, your typical filet mignon and lobster surf-and-turf, and a Golden Tilefish (seared tilefish with jumbo lump crab meat, cilantro lime butter, and mango salsa). -If this is all too pricey, Bento Café is offering a limited time special on the XOXO Roll (spicy tuna, imitation crab, pineapple, topped with tuna, salmon, red tobiko, scallions, spicy mayo, and eel sauce), Bangkok Square will be serving a special Valentine’s Day dessert with coconut ice cream, chocolate sauce, and topped with Milo powder (see my Instagram), and Loosey’s will be offering free champagne.
