The News 1/14/2015

It’s time once again for…the news! Lots of good stuff coming up on the horizon. As always, keep checking this page for the latest scoops! Watch for new reviews coming out in the next week or so. For those asking about Valentines Day specials, I’ll make a post closer to that day. Enjoy your long weekend, everyone!

-The Great Outdoors Restaurant in High Springs is hosting a five-course wine pairing dinner tomorrow, January 15th starting at 6:30 PM. $75 a head. Menu items include a chicken liver pate with apricot chutney and pistachio cream, sashimi with a citrus herb marinated leg of lamb over a toasted almond cous-cous, cranberries, and brussels sprouts. Call 386-454-1288 for more information and to reserve seats.

-Ameraucana Wood Fire will be out at Tipple’s Brews on Thursday from 5 PM to 9 PM, then Midnight Cookies on Friday night and First Magnitude Brewing Company on Sunday. Have you tried the new tomatoes on the Marge yet? They’re fantastic!

-Speaking of Midnight Cookies, they are now offering most of their cookies in uncooked form proportioned and ready for you to bake at home. The cold weather is returning, so it’ll be a good idea to keep readily-available hot cookies on hand!

-Save the Date! Swamp Head and Sabore are teaming up for a dinner on January 29th. Chef Valero is going to pair your favorite Swamp Head brews with some of his own creations. Check both of their pages for more details as they emerge in the coming days. I’m super excited for this event, I predict we may even see some Headcheese come out that night. If you don’t know what that is, look it up…or maybe not…I don’t know.

-Weather should be letting up this weekend and will be nice out. First Magnitude will be taking full advantage of this as they host the Zack Joseph Band on Friday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Royal Manor Meadery’s Mead is now on tap as well! Have you tried it yet? It’s delicious!!!

-Mildred’s Big City Food is starting up their Saturday Night Bar Dinners again starting this Saturday, January 17th at 7 PM. The theme for this dinner is “Nose to Tail”. I wish they would post more information about it online, but if this tickles your fancy, call 352-371-1711 or email for more information and to reserve a spot.

-Like coffee? Like poetry? Volta will be hosting the first of their Spring Poetry & Fiction Reading Series next Thursday, January 22nd. Additional dates are 2/5, 2/19, 3/12, 3/25, and 4/19. Readings begin at 8 PM.

-If you are a fan of microbreweries and being able to visit beer tasting rooms or buy bottles directly from breweries, this article is relevant to your interests. Stop these jackasses from denying of us delicious beer!

-A number of people have asked me about upcoming reviews. Blaze Pizza and The Spot are both on my radar. Fear not, it’s coming. Got a lot of wheels in motion right now in my life outside of Eating Gainesville, so I’m trying my best to get you guys more stuff to read!
