The News 11/18/2014

Mmmm…turkey day. To celebrate the imminent festivities, here’s a picture of me as a turkey trampling over a child while storming into Best Buy. Another fantastic Thanksgiving is coming up and gives us all a wonderful reason to stuff our faces full of deliciousness before going out to knock down people over cheap TV’s. Here’s a couple bits of news happening this week, then a slew of options for next week.

-Ameraucana Wood Fire will be out at Midnight Cookies this Wednesday from 5 to 8, Tipple’s Brews from 5 to 9 on Thursday, and back at Midnight Cookies on Friday night from 6 to 9. The weather will be nice and cold, perfect for warm round things.

-Sunday is a busy day at First Magnitude Brewery as there will be another Hatha yoga class at 1 PM. The event is free, and is BYOM (Bring your own mat). Then at 4 PM, Ricky Kendall, Michael Claytor, and my favorite Bears & Lions will be performing live music to support the re-opening of Family Promise of Gainesville, a non-profit that provides shelter and support for homeless children and families. The event will be going on in their brand spankin’ new beer garden, and Humble Pie will be on hand to serve pizzas.

-Uppercrust is offering a special Thanksgiving menu of items for pre-order. Put them in by Friday, November 21st and pick up between Monday and Wednesday. They are closed Thanksgiving Day. But items include Pumpkin & Sweet Potato pies, Pecan pie, Kentucky Bourbon pie, and a variety of cookies, breads, and pastries. Bread stuffing made from their French white or whole wheat breads is available Monday, November 24th as well. Stop by this week to pick up a menu for the full list of offerings.

-David’s BBQ is offering a Holiday Meal Park for $119.99 and will feed 12 to 15 people. You get your choice of a 10-12 lbs. turkey or honey glazed ham (5 lbs.), choice of three sides (mashed potato casserole, green beans, sweet potato casserole, mac & cheese, coleslaw, cornbread stuffing, bbq beans, collard greens, potato salad), and a choice of buttermilk pie, pumpkin pie, or pecan pie. All meals come with a gallon of sweet tea and Hawaiian rolls as well.

-Ipanema Steakhouse in Ocala is open Thanksgiving Day from Noon to 6:30 PM. The all-you-can-eat Rodizio is $41.95 a person and Salad Bar only is $28.95. Call for reservations. For those who have never been, this is a Brazilian steakhouse that’s all you can eat. Servers (“gauchos”) come around with MEATS ON SWORDS that include sirloin, filet mignon, chicken, sausage, pork, lamb, prime rib, and more.

-Mildred’s Big City Food will be open Thanksgiving Day from Noon to 8 PM. Call for reservations, the seats are filling up quickly. Not sure what’s on the menu because it’s not posted online. Can someone there help a brotha out?

-Paramount Grill will also be open on Thanksgiving Day and have put together a special menu that includes a Bison & Venison Meatloaf, and Herb Roasted Turkey Breast amongst other items. $55 a person ($20 for children under 10) and includes three courses. Full menu is available on their Facebook page.

That’s it for now folks, should any new things pop up throughout the week, I’ll update this post. But if not, I hope you guys all have a wonderful week leading up to Turkey Day. More reviews to come!
