The News 9/5/2014
More reviews coming this weekend! I promise! If you’re reading this and haven’t “liked” my page, please do. The march towards 10,000 “likes” begins now, and I promise a special giveaway once we hit that mark. But ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for a juicy edition of THE NEWS!
-The Hyppo Gourmet Popsicles is preparing to open two additional locations in town. One will be located in Butler Plaza next to McAllisters, and the other will be in Midtown in the Stadium Club building that also houses How Do You Roll? and Cheese Daddy. Both locations expect to be open soon, stay tuned for an ETA. You’re welcome, Gainesville Sun.
-In food truck news, don’t forget today is Cymplify’s monthly Food Truck Rally starting at 5 PM featuring the likes of Heart & Soul, FED, Baboyz, and Sizzle Wagon. Swamp Head Brewery is also hosting their Football Friday event starting at 4 PM featuring Off The Griddle food truck. Ameraucana Wood Fire will also be at Midnight Cookies tonight from 6 PM to 9 PM.
-A popular local Vietnamese restaurant is opening up a small noodle house in the former Fresco’s location next to Peach Valley Café. They will be serving a variety of noodle dishes and noodle soups. More details as well as the identity of the restaurant will come soon!
-Spark, a new bar opening in the former Quiznos location on SW 34th Street is expecting to be opened within the next month. The bar is owned and operated by the same folks who own Embers, and will feature cocktails and snacks from their kitchen. I took a peek at the space and it’s looking beautiful, stay tuned for more info!
-Whiskey House downtown is well on its way to opening. They just completed all of their hiring yesterday, and construction is about 75% completed. The bar is also looking gorgeous here and will be serving a large selection of whiskeys, and other fine spirits, along with a selection of cigars. No ETA on opening has been set yet, but expect something before year’s end. Permitting issues caused a long delay.
-First Magnitude Brewing Company now has their own pint glasses available for $4. Growlers are also available now, $7 for a 32 oz and $20 for a gallon.
-Keep Alachua County Beautiful is hosting a fundraising event tomorrow from 7 PM to Midnight at the Unified Training Center (809 W University Ave). There will be live music from The Imposters (a Beatles cover band that’s not The Shitty Beatles) beginning at 9 PM, and Ameraucana Wood Fire will be there giving out free pizzas. Tickets are $15 and all goes towards benefiting the work of Keep Alachua County Beautiful.
As always, stay classy Gainesville…GO GATORS!
