The News 8/6/2014

As all you fresh young faces are popping up around town, you’re arriving just in time for some exciting food happenings coming up in the next week or so! Over 45,000 people have seen my “Best Of” list and over 450 people have liked or shared it. That’s incredible, thank you guys much! Hope the list serves as a good guide. And now…THE NEWS!

-Midnight Cookies is celebrating their 4 year anniversary this Saturday (August 9th) and they’re doing a super awesome giveaway. Take a picture of yourself enjoying a cookie at the shop on Saturday and tag them with the caption “Happy Birthday Midnight Cookies!” and you’ll be entered into a drawing to win 6 free cookies EACH WEEK for the entire fall semester. More details will be available on their website shortly.

-Sabore also happens to be celebrating their 4 year anniversary next week and have a whole week of specials lined up beginning Tuesday, August 12th when they will be serving two specials; Osso Bucco and Black Summer Truffle Mashed Potatoes. Live music August 13th and 14th, half off wine on the 15th, complimentary hors d’oeuvres on the 16th, and a free dessert per table on the 17th.

-Tomorrow night (August 7th), ABC Liquors on Archer Road will be hosting a big wine tasting event. From 6 PM to 8 PM, $10 gets you in to sample tables upon tables of fine wines, spirits, and beer. Each admission also gets you a free glass and coupon. Ameraucana Wood Fire will also be on hand to serve pizzas.

-Mojo Q, a restaurant group with BBQ restaurants throughout the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area is preparing to open a new restaurant in downtown Gainesville in the former Te Amo location. The spot most recently housed the short-lived Blue Water Bay and the 2nd Street Oyster House. This restaurant is not related to the upcoming Mojo Grill (Ocala) moving into the former Cody’s Roadhouse on Archer Road. No ETA on opening has been set, but the owners are “trying to open ASAP.” The restaurant will be a “Southern Blues Kitchen” style with live music.

-The much-anticipated Whiskey House that is moving into the former Brophy’s Pub downtown is running into delays with building permits, and is now looking at an opening date sometime in September. I first broke this news back in April. Whiskey House will be serving a wide selection of…well…whiskeys, along with a cigar humidor, live music, and cocktails.

-If you missed my “Best Of List” please check out, as always, please share, like, and share your thoughts. You can also find me on Instagram @keneatsgainesville to see what I’m up to. Thank you all as usual!
