Under The Table: The Great American Smoke-Out

June 22, 2014

Need July 4th plans? Under The Table, a private dinner series, is putting on a big party this Independence Day. 100 tickets at $75 a pop are now available. The theme for this dinner is obviously 'MURICA, and there will be a variety of American-inspired dishes made from local ingredients, craft beers, and cocktails. There will also be live music (and maybe even a short performance by yours truly), and bathing suits are optional (in other words, there will be a pool if you wish to partake, and no, this doesn't mean you can show up naked). The location is a secret, and will be announced shortly before the event to ticket holders.

This particular Asian had the privilege of attending the first Under The Table dinner, held at the eccentric home of a local restauranteur. That particular dinner was Latin-themed. Aside from killer, non-stop cocktails provided by TJ of 2nd Street Speakeasy, there was a barrage of dishes from Oysters with a chorizo sauce, shrimp & quinoa, homemade plantain chips and bacon croquetas, to Ropa Vieja atop a black bean puree. The location was Gainesville at its quirkiest, as walls were lined from top to bottom with various artwork, and everything from the bathrooms to the smoking room, and built-in Bed & Breakfast was full of color and character. I had a wonderful time having great food, great drinks, and interacting with local business owners and foodies.

Every year, I get together with people and put on a massive aerial assault of high powered explosives. It has become somewhat of a tradition for me, because if it's one thing I love more than food, it's high powered explosives. But this year, I'm trading in my mortars for tasty yummies.

I'll be in attendance, will you? Tickets are currently available at www.underthetable.co
