Vine Bread & Pasta

For those who attend the Downtown Farmer's Market on Wednesdays, you may already be familiar with Vine Bread & Pasta and their delicious breads and pastries. Up until recently, Dean Griebel and Teresa Zokovitch operated out of a warehouse across from Satchel's Pizza, while supplying their creations to local restaurants like The Top, Civilization, and The Wine & Cheese Gallery. Back in May, they moved into their current location at 627 N. Main Street, making their fresh baked goodies more accessible than ever. The building was an old gas station, then cell phone store, and up until recently, one of those shady "internet cafes." But Dean and Teresa have done a wonderful job of turning the space into a bright and inviting place where you can salivate at their creations in one room, then enjoy your food in a nice dining area complete with books and board games. It's really the perfect spot to have good conversation over a cup of coffee and some quality baked goods. In fact, after 2nd Street Bakery closed, Gainesville hasn't had anything like this in the downtown area. It's a breathe of fresh air beyond the hipster coffee shops and Starbucks. No offense to either of those types of places, but it's nice to enjoy a cup of coffee and pastry without any pretense. But onto the food, and my is there a beautiful ever-rotating selection of pastries! Today, I tried the Vegan Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Bun with Strawberry Ganache, a beautiful Blueberry & Pear Creme Tart, and a Chocolate Ginger Croissant. All of which were absolutely delicious. I'll admit it was tough to pass up some of the other available goodies (Chocolate Pear Bread Pudding, Vegan Mango Bread, and Basil Chocolate Croissants), but my stomach just wouldn't allow it. I definitely recommend checking their Facebook page (link in comments) to keep up with what's on the menu for the day. The various breads were absolutely beautiful and all made with filtered water, Himalayan salt, and organic flour. There was Cranberry Walnut, Rye, and 50-50 Five Grain made with sunflower, flax, and pumpkin seeds. At $4 to $8 a loaf, it's a great value for bread that is fresh baked with quality ingredients. In fact, I couldn't resist and took home half a loaf of the Five Grain. As I'm writing this, I'm enjoy a slice with some melted butter. It is to die for. My only complaint was the lack of music in the dining area, which made for some awkwardly quiet eats, but I know the location is still somewhat of a work in progress. Go check it out, they're opened Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 3 PM, which makes it hard for some of us who work a 9 to 5 job (like myself!) but go anyways, and go early. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a loaf of delicious bread to consume.
