Midnight Cookies has long been one of Gainesville's best kept secrets. Despite the lack of any signage and minimal advertising other than on Facebook, they've gained a loyal following from a small kiosk inside of the California Chicken Kitchen on 34th Street. Their fresh, baked-to-order cookies are about to be discovered by many more people as they open their new location on SW 34th Street next to Tropical Smoothie and the Asian Super Market (same plaza as Peach Valley Cafe).
You'll find the classic chocolate chip and sugar cookies, and then an ever rotating lineup of mad creations like maple bacon, red velvet, birthday cake, key lime pie, and my personal favorite; bananas foster. Every cookie is made to order, and served the only way it should be; as piping hot, ooey gooey, rich, yummy goodness. You can even get a cup of milk, Yoohoo, or almond milk to have a proper cookie experience.
Whenever I tell new folks about this place, I always like to bring up a story about the time I introduced it to a friend from Miami. He was in an "altered state", if you will, and ordered the Lucky Charms cookie. In his words, it "achieved the perfect balance between marshmallow and cereal that I could never attain as a child", and then proceeded to cry tears of joy. While I'm not saying you'll be moved to tears (unless you're also in an "altered state" of mind), what I'm trying to say is that the cookies are damn good.
I attended their soft opening at their new location last night and while it is very much still a work in progress, I loved the new space. There's comfortable group seating, free wifi, and it's only a couple blocks south of the original location. The City won't allow more seating until a second bathroom is constructed, and the owners are still working on signage out front. But hey, they seemed to do just fine without it so far!
Midnight Cookies is open 7 PM to about 2 AM on most nights and are located at 3345 SW 34th Street, Suite 1. I suggest keeping track of their hours and new flavors on their Facebook page (in comments). If you are craving some tasty sweets late at night, but don't want to get out of your PJs, they also deliver. With enough notice, they'll even make custom cookie cakes (starting at $23.99 for 8") and cookie truffles ($23.99 for a box of 16).
So the next time you get that late night sweet tooth, pay these fine folks a visit. Cookie Monster would approve of your decision.
